The cosplay scene is giving young people inner strength and identity. They can transform themselves as any character and play the role of their own superheroes. It is an escape from daily life, adulthood and reality into their own imagination. I returned to my hometown, Karlsruhe where I got to know a plethora of passionate young cosplayers. They disclosed that cosplay allows them to temporarily escape the mundanity of surburban reality with the power of their own imagination.
